Our BHHS's students are having a blast on the DCCollege Tour! They've gotten a chance to visit Morgan State University, even running into a BHHS alumnae! While in Baltimore, they also visited and engaged with the history at the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum. We can't wait to see more about their experience! #TigerPride #DCCollegeTour #BHHS

Good afternoon Tiger Nation.
It is my great honor to introduce a remarkable educator and leader who will be joining our district community as the new principal of Benton Harbor High School, Mr. Keith Sanders (pending board approval).
Mr. Sanders brings more than three decades of experience in education, school leadership, and successful school turnaround work. His career reflects an unwavering commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, zip code, or circumstance receive a high-quality, life-changing educational experience. He has served in multiple roles throughout his career, including teacher, vice principal, principal, and chief officer of school turnaround for the Delaware Department of Education. In each position, he has demonstrated a deep understanding of what it takes to improve schools, elevate instructional practice, and inspire both students and staff.
Among his many accomplishments, Keith co-founded Louisiana's first all-boys public charter school in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina—an extraordinary undertaking that speaks to his vision, courage, and dedication to serving underserved communities. His work has earned national attention and respect, including features in Davis Guggenheim's documentary Waiting for Superman, Paul Bambrick-Santoyo's Driven by Data, and recognition in The New York Times. Additionally, he is a certified member of the John Maxwell Team, further underscoring his commitment to leadership excellence.
Beyond education, Keith's passion for basketball has led him to become a certified NBA agent, a unique extension of his ability to mentor, motivate, and advocate for young people in all arenas of life.
A proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Mr. Sanders brings with him not only expertise, but humility, integrity, and a heartfelt belief in the potential of every student.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Keith Sanders back to our district. We are fortunate to have him, and I look forward to the lasting impact his leadership will bring to our schools and community.
In service,
Simone Griffin

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, all schools and offices in the Benton Harbor Area Schools District will be closed from Wednesday, November 26th, to Friday, November 28th. Regular school and District hours will resume on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving break!

Due to improved student outcomes, Fair Plain East Elementary School has been removed from the Michigan Department of Education’s Partnership Agreement list!
“Our teachers have poured their hearts into our students by staying late, supporting each other, and always putting students first," said Principal Jordan Wright. "Seeing our students’ test scores improve and knowing we did this together is incredibly rewarding."
Congratulations to the entire FPE team, our students, and our families for working together to make this happen! 👏 #InspireBrilliance #TigerNation #SecondToNone
