Dear Tiger Families,

Now that the school year has officially wrapped up and our hallways have quieted down, I want to take a moment to look back and thank you for your incredible partnership. Our students made tremendous strides this year, and that progress is directly nurtured by your love and support at home.

While summer is a well-deserved time for our Tigers to rest and recharge, it also brings a hidden challenge known as the “summer slide”. Research reminds us that when students take a full three-month break from school, their academic momentum can slow down, and they can lose a noticeable portion of the knowledge they gained throughout the year.

To help keep that momentum going, our Summer School officially kicks off next Monday, June 15th! This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to keep learning and get a head start on the upcoming year.

Whether your child is joining us on campus on the 15th or learning from home, you can help keep their minds active by weaving real-world learning into your daily summer routines.

Here are three simple activities that you can do from home to keep your child learning:

  • Read for 30 minutes: Keep your child motivated by letting them pick out books that spark their interest. The more pages they turn the stronger their vocabulary!

  • Write and document the summer: Have your child keep a summer journal of their adventures or write letters to family and friends. This keeps their writing muscles active and keeps loved ones connected.

  • Cook and bake together: Kitchen time is secret math time! Let your child help measure ingredients, halve a recipe or calculate cooking times to practice fractions and core math skills.

Our students have so much talent and potential, and by working together this summer, we can make sure they don't lose a single step of their momentum. Have a happy and healthy summer, Tiger families!

With Tiger Pride,

Dr. Simone Griffin
