And The Honor Goes To...
The stage is set, the audience is being seated, and the suspense is building.  Welcome to the 17th Annual McCord Renaissance Honors Night.  An evening to gather and celebrate the academic excellence of the students of McCord.

One of the highlights of the evening
is the naming of the Top Ten Eighth Graders
of the year.  This McCord tradition
has the previous year's recipients returning to McCord to award their academic
all-star chair to the newest honoree.

Horses on the Beach
In February our carousel horse arrived!
McCord applied to decorate one of the horses that will be placed throughout St. Joseph this summer.  Patterned after the highly successful "Cows on Parade" in Chicago, this effort is expected to draw thousands of people into the area.

What an honor to be selected!

Mr. Swanson and the art students worked
very hard on this project. Their hard work and effort
paid off. This is what our horse, The Final Frontier,
looks like now!  You can find him on Broad Street
between City Hall and The Box Factory.
Stop and take a look, we think you'll be pleased.
If you buy a deck of the Horses on the Beach
 playing cards, look for us.
The Final Frontier is the Ace of Hearts!

Singing in the Rain!
The spring arts production is a highlight of each year.  Dance and music students demonstrate that if its worth doing, its worth doing well.  Thanks Ms. Haskin for another wonderful production.
It Huffed, It Puffed, It Blew Our Trees Down!
No one at McCord will ever forget where they were during this spring storm.  It was an event that left some of the oldest trees behind the building uprooted. Rain, wind, no water, no power. What a day to remember.

Eighth grader Arimes walked away with the Grand Prize for Middle School with his scorpion sculpture at this year's Berrien County Arts and Science Expo.

These McCord students participated in this year's
Make A Difference Day
along with employees of the Whirlpool Corporation.  Everyone had a great experience, met new people, and made a difference for others.

Practice season for the McCord Marching Band paid off with two great events during the 2004 season.  A crowd pleasing performance was delivered at this year's Blossomtime Parade followed days later by a trip to Holland.

Based on their two year performances in the Wednesday Volksparade, the band was asked to march in the world renowned Saturday Holland Tulip Parade.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for the 2005 McCord Greenhouse Plant Sale in early May.  This 2004 sale was three times as large as the first one in 2003. The students planted and took care of even more varieties than in their first season.  If you haven't visited this student production yet, you'll be able to see what kids can really accomplish. All profits from the sale are reinvested in the greenhouse.

Greenhouse, Art Studio, Science Lab
Its all that and more. Art students use the greenhouse to sketch plants, combining both science and art skills.
Of course, working in the greenhouse
is just a great place to be!

Can you see that these three have a "bright idea"?  They're constructing a flashlight.

Don't laugh, they really work
!.

In science, as in life, when you need
to figure something out,
three heads are better than one!

Eighth grade science students work on a lab report using the balance scales

And you thought a greenhouse was only
 good for growing plants?
 You are so VERY WRONG!

Did you know you can make a flashlight
out of an empty toilet paper roll?
These two eighth graders have it all figured out.
Now if you can only get them to tell you how it's done!
