Kerry Foley
Band

email address

My name is Kerry Foley and I am the band teacher here at McCord Renaissance Middle School.  This is my second year at McCord and I am so excited about the possibilities we have in our performing arts department.  I live in Galien, MI with my wife Cindy and Charlie and Sassy, our "wondercats".  We do not have any children of our own yet, but hope to have some in the relatively near future.

My original plans when I graduated high school (way back in 1991) were to join the Navy and audition for their band program.  Since I am deaf in one ear and have no cartilage in my knees, they wouldn't take me.  I jumped into what I had planned to do after service, and attended St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Music Education from SJC in December of 1995.  I taught band and choir at all grade levels in my native Northwest Indiana, (including in a medium-security facility for the Indiana Department of Corrections - that was interesting!) until I met my wife.  After we were married in May of 2003, I was told that we would live in her native Southwest Michigan.  I was more than happy to get out of the city and obliged.  We bought a house in Galien last summer, and I am proud to be one of Michigan's newest residents.

In my spare time, I enjoy fixing up our 100-year-old house, architecture, singing in my barbershop quartet and chorus (yes, I have a handlebar moustache for a reason), cycling, hunting, fishing and building things.  My wife and I are very happy in Michigan, and I can honestly say that McCord is BY FAR the best place I have ever taught.  There is so much talent in this building, and I look forward to building a bandchoral program to rival most high schools.  With hard work, dedication and perseverance, I truly believe it can happen here.  I am proud to be part of the McCord Renaissance family.
