I'm Charlene Brooks, an
educator, counselor, family instructor, Christian, wife, mother, and
grandmother.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois in the small suburb of Morgan Park.
My adorable husband and I have three adult daughters, four grandchildren
ages two, three, four, and six.
My experience with the Board of Education in Chicago includes working for
nine years at the Chicago Residential School for Boys, In 1978 we
moved to Benton Harbor where I worked for ten years at Sorter Elementary
as a Master Teacher. I've also worked at Sterne Brunson and last
year I taught Language Arts and Social Studies at Hull Middle School.
This is my first year at McCord.
I have a total of thirty-four years in education, twenty-five of which are
with the Benton Harbor Area Schools. I've done two years of
administrative internship under former Superintendent of Schools Rutter.
I serve on the Leadership Team at McCord and also work Middle Start.
I'm very busy with community service. For two years I served on the
City of Benton Harbor's Crime Commission. I conduct Bible study
classes during the summer and direct a Citizen's Valentine Party every
year at River Terrace. I'm a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
and help with their Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets for needy families.
I've been co-chairman to the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, a member of
the NAACP, Morton House Organization, FWCA, and the Inspirational Choir of
Fellowship M.B. Church.
My hobbies include reading, cooking, and community service. My
favorite colors are the neutrals of brown, cream and beige.
One of my favorite quotes of Edwin Markham is "All that we send into the
lives of others, comes back into our own."
My own advice to others is to "Focus on your future by focusing on your
work today". |
