Teachers and curriculum consultants collaboratively developed the Benton Harbor Area Schools Core Curriculum. The curriculum is continuously evaluated and regularly updated to maintain alignment with state curriculum expectations. In order to bring about systemic school reform, the curriculum combines the latest research and development in curriculum design, assessment, alignment, instruction, and management.
This document integrates national/state standards and benchmarks and local expectations in creating high performance academic standards to be achieved by all students in language arts, math, science and social studies. The core curriculum meets state standards and benchmarks and addresses the following:
- Rigorous expectations for students
- Relevance, clarity and focus of instruction
- Alignment of K-12 curriculum
