JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL COACH – HEAD COACH
SUPERVISOR: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL/ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

JOB SUMMARY :

The Head Softball Coach manages the softball program at the high school under the direction of the Asst. Principal/Athletic Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in coaching softball preferred.
  • Ability to organize and supervise the total sports program.
  • Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of softball and at the same time continue to examine new theories and procedures that are pertinent.
  • Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban-rural, multi-racial, multi-ethnic school district.
  • Other qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
  • Attend and supervise all practices and games.
  • Recommend assistant coaches to the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director.
  • Train and plan for coaches at all levels in order that all will be prepared to teach similar drills, techniques, and philosophy.
  • Abide by the policies of the Board of Education, the Michigan High School Athletic Association, and the Big Eight Athletic Conference.
  • Confirm that each student athlete is eligible regarding age, physical exam, and enrollment in school, current semester GPA, and attendance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure that each student athlete has had a proper annual physical examination and a copy is on file in the Athletic Office.
  • Ensure that the athletic trainer and/or physician have cleared injured athletes prior to the athlete returning to practice or an athletic event.
  • Provide the Athletic Office with a complete list of participants for each athletic event and inform those students who are deemed ineligible.
  • Post and provide a list of training rules and consequences for infractions to each student.
  • Assume responsibility for the issuance, control, and return of athletic equipment. Work with equipment manager in making sure that procedures are followed and a final inventory is made.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director.
