STUDENTS RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES/CONDUCT BEHAVIOR CODE/DRESS CODE
Personal appearance is a matter of
individual taste and values. The appearance of a student reflects the
values of the student’s home and personal taste. Responsibility for
personal appearance rests primarily upon parents. District
authorities shall not dictate hairstyle except when necessary to
maintain discipline and orderly operation of the schools, however, the
wearing of uniforms is mandatory in all schools within the district
during school days.
The administrative staff shall be
responsible for the health and safety of each student while at school
and for the preservation of an atmosphere, which is conducive to
learning. The principal or designees shall have full authority to take
prudent action as necessary when:
-
A student's attire
is so unusual as to interfere with the learning of others.
-
A student's attire
or hairstyle presents a danger to the student or others.
-
A student's
appearance violates commonly accepted community standards of
decency.
-
A student's bodily
condition or mode of dress is detrimental to the student's health or
the health of others.
No hats are to be
worn in the district buildings during the school day. Uniform shirts
are to be tucked into one’s pants or skirt.
See "Uniform Code of
Discipline and Students' Rights and Responsibilities" handbook, which
is made a part of this policy manual, for specific provisions
regarding student dress.
