STUDENTS
ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES AND EXCUSES
The principal or designee is responsible for enforcing the attendance
laws of the state and the person who may excuse a student for
"necessary and legal absence, subject to the provisions of the
Michigan School Code."
Reasons recognized as
valid for excused absences are:
- Illness of student, attested, if necessary, by a
physician's certificate;
- Contagious disease within the home of the
student;
- Death in the immediate family, or of close friend
or relative;
- Legal business;
- Observance of a religious holiday;
- Remedial health treatment;
- Prearranged absence to visit a college or
university or to participate in other educational experiences; and
- Other emergency situations as determined by the
principal or designee.
See "Uniform Code of Discipline and Students' Rights
and Responsibilities" handbook, which is made a part of this policy
manual, for specific provisions regarding student absences and
excuses.
