CREDIT BY EXAMINATION WITHOUT PRIOR INSTRUCTION
- Examination for acceleration (EFA) is a means by which high-achieving secondary students may “test out” of particular courses. Students may be accelerated through EFA in any academic courses for which EOC tests are available through the Secondary Division. EFA test administration will be coordinated by the District's Test Center, and examinations will be given at cost to the student/parent. Written approval for the acceleration of students scoring at mastery level of 90 percent or above will be obtained from parents on the application form. The implications of having students accelerate as a result of the exams should be discussed with parents, as well as with the student.
- EFA test dates and application deadlines will be set annually by the District's Secondary Division Test Center. Examinations will be scheduled at least four times each year. Students may apply to take examinations during the appropriate test period for their grade level. Counselors should submit required application(s) and enrollment form(s) to the Test Center by requested deadlines.
- Students scoring 90% or above on examinations shall be accelerated and/or receive appropriate credit. Promotion/reclassification will be based on the standards in effect for the student's grade level. Credit toward meeting graduation requirements shall be awarded for qualifying scores on high school course examinations. Scores shall not be counted toward a student's grade point average (GPA) or rank in class (RC).
- Examinations for acceleration are offered for students having no prior instruction, therefore, the District is not obligated to furnish textbooks, study guides, tutoring, or other instructional aids to students registering for the examinations.
- Examinations for acceleration will be administered by Test Center staff at sites to be determined. Result(s) will be returned to the student's home address within 3-4 weeks of the test date.
