STUDENTS ATTENDANCE/SCHOOL ADMISSIONS ASSIGNMENT TO SCHOOLS
A student shall be expected to
attend the school within his/her attendance area. However, upon the
recommendation of school officials or the written request of a parent
or legal guardian, a student may be transferred to a school outside
his/her regular attendance area upon written approval of the
Superintendent or designee. The Superintendent or designee shall
develop rules and regulations concerning the procedures for
reassignment of students that assures that students shall not be
transferred out of their assigned buildings after the second week of
school.
Approval may only be
granted for the following reasons:
- individual student safety;
- extenuating and unusual circumstances;
- need for special education services;
- building overcrowding; or
- class equalization.
If the legal residence of a student changes from one
attendance area to another during the school year, the parent or legal
guardian may either have the student remain in school serving his/her
residence (only for the current school year), or transfer him/her to
the school serving his/her new residence. Should the student remain in
his/her former school, transportation shall be the responsibility of
the parents.
Students should not be transferred for disciplinary
reasons. If a student is unable to make proper adjustment in his/her
assigned school, he/she shall be recommended for special school
placement by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction upon the
request of the principal.
All transfer requests shall be in accordance with
the guidelines of racial balance established under the federal
court-ordered desegregation plan.
