TEXTBOOK SELECTION AND
ADOPTION RULES AND REGULATIONS
It shall be the responsibility
of the instructional division to implement the following procedures
concerning the study and adoption of new textbooks:

Recommendations
concerning study of textbooks and other instructional materials will
be made by principals to the Assistant Superintendent for
Instruction. These recommendations will include, if applicable:
- the number of years the current textbook has
been in use;
- the physical condition of the current textbook; and;
- reasons why the current textbook does not meet the needs of
the district's educational objectives.

When a need is identified,
the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction shall initiate a study
at the elementary and junior high levels and form a textbook study
committee which shall include curriculum persons, classroom
teachers, and administrators. At the high school, a textbook study
committee shall be comprised of the department chairman, classroom
teachers in the subject area, and the high school principal.
- Study committees shall receive direction, support, and
assistance from the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, in
cooperation with the Superintendent.
- Recommendations from textbook study committees shall be
presented on prescribed forms to the Assistant Superintendent for
Instruction, who will then review recommendations with the Board
Curriculum Committee and the Superintendent prior to presentation to
the Board for action.
- Textbook adoptions shall be for at least five school years.
