The Superintendent or designee shall be responsible
for informing by letter all driver education providers in the area
that the district has established academic and attendance eligibility
standards and would like to have these standards honored. The
Superintendent or designee shall also be responsible for implementing
procedures to maintain data that would be utilized in determining
whether or not the student is eligible for driver training. All
students, who are 15 years of age or older, shall be provided with
imprinted report cards that indicate whether or not the student is
eligible to participate in driver training. The Superintendent or
designee shall be responsible for establishing rules and regulations
in a timely manner to comply with Public Act 194 of 1991 and informing
the Board.
The course shall be of a general health and safety
nature. The main purpose shall be to enable beginning drivers to
safely handle an automobile in order to protect themselves and others
from injuries caused by improper handling of such vehicles. They shall
receive classroom instruction as well as "behind-the-wheel"
instruction and observation in an automobile. Students shall be under
the supervision of a qualified teacher or licensed instructor.
The Board recognizes the value of gaining driving
experience while under the guidance of an experienced driver. For that
reason, students shall be offered this course prior to age 16
so they may qualify for a restricted driving permit upon successful
completion of the course. In this manner students will qualify for a
restricted operator's license at age 16 and have gained additional
driving experience.
