- Title I projects in target area schools;
- special reading instruction;
- programs in speech and language;
- special enrichment programs in the arts;
- programs for the academically talented;
- alternative education programs for high school
students;
- compensatory and enrichment programs;
- programs for the emotionally handicapped;
- programs for the learning disabled children;
- programs for the mentally impaired;
- programs for the physically impaired;
- programs for the visually and hearing impaired;
- programs for pregnant students and school-age
mothers; and
- programs for court adjudicated students.
Special programs shall be conducted in accordance
with legal provisions and with the State Board of Education's
regulations regarding special education.
When appropriate, programs may be administered by county agencies. The Berrien County Intermediate School District shall be in charge of instruction for severely emotionally impaired, severely mentally impaired, trainable mentally impaired, young adult pre-vocational, homebound and previously identified handicapped, and programs for the visually impaired. The District's service for the hearing impaired shall continue to be provided by the Hearing Impaired Program of the Berrien Springs Public Schools.
It is recognized that to obtain the expertise needed to design or implement select programs, the Board of Education may need to contract with other educational institutions or enter into collaboration agreement with other providers. These contracts or agreements shall be approved by the Board. Additionally, these agreements must be reviewed periodically to assess their effectiveness.
