EXTENDED PROGRAMS/HONORS PROGRAM
In order to encourage and reward academic excellence, the Board shall provide, and budget for, an honors program in which above-average students shall have the opportunity to take advanced classes where the subject matter is explored in much greater depth. In addition, honors courses may be offered in subjects not routinely included in the secondary school curriculum.

Students must meet Board-adopted entrance criteria in the subject area to take an honors course and must be willing to do additional homework and research. Students who elect honors courses shall receive an additional honor point for each semester grade they receive in an honors course. The minimum number of students needed to offer an honors course shall be ten.

Above-average students shall also be provided opportunities to pursue special projects and engage in individual self- study under the district's honors program. The district may fund said programs or projects, at the Superintendent’s discretion, provided funds are available.
