CURRICULUM DESIGN/BASIC PROGRAM CHAPTER I PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION
The Board shall provide Pre-School instruction designed to serve students ages three and four. The purpose of such instruction shall be to create a happy, productive, and successful school experience for young children and to prepare them for their regular school careers in a positive manner.

Those present and future rules and regulations set forth by Chapter I regulations, which have implications for Pre-School programming, shall be adhered to. Only children in Chapter I target area schools shall be eligible.

The Chapter I Pre-School program shall be an integral part of the regular school program, on a space-available basis, in all elementary Chapter I target area schools. The program shall function with modifications, in accordance with the regular school calendar established for the district. Classes shall be scheduled on a half-day basis.

Montessori Pre-School experience shall be provided for those students in the district who have differing ethnic, social, racial, and economic backgrounds so they might interact in an instructional setting designed to provide specific learning experiences in an enhanced academic environment. Requirements mandated by the federal court order relative to space, population, and general procedures shall be met.

In order to achieve integration of Pre-School instruction into the regular elementary program of the district, planning and development of the Pre-School program shall be included in the development of the regular kindergarten and elementary school curriculum.

The Board regards parental involvement as an important component of the district's Pre-School program and shall encourage such involvement through conferences, home visitations, and classroom participation by parents.
