CURRICULUM
DEVELOPMENT/PILOT PROJECTS
The instructional and
administrative staff shall be encouraged to seek improvement of the
educational program of the schools through all appropriate means,
including carefully designed experimental programs.
All curricular programs that are funded with grant
monies shall initially be designated as "pilot" projects and programs
and shall be subject to annual review by the Board.
All experimental and "pilot" projects and programs
must be approved by the Board before the following school year's
operating budget is approved in June and only implemented in one or
two buildings.
The programs shall represent an innovative approach
that reflects a departure from the existing school program.
Pilot projects and
programs shall consist of three stages:
- First year - planning and development of the
curriculum, analysis of staffing and material needs, funding
sources, and budget.
- Second year - implementation and monitoring.
- Third year - monitoring and evaluation of the
program with regard to its educational effectiveness and the degree
to which it meets a particular need for students of the district and
a decision by the Board to expand or discontinue the project before
the following school year's operating budget is approved in June.
The Superintendent or designee shall submit to the
Board an annual status report and evaluation of all experimental and
pilot programs.
