INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES/INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
PROCEDURES FOR WORKSHOPS AND IN-SERVICE ACTIVITIES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rationale:
Staff development is an integral part of any effective school District.  It is important for in-service and pre-service activities to be planned in such a way as to assure maximum utilization of facilities and resources.  In addition, all programs should be directed toward the District's instructional goals and objectives.  This cannot normally be accomplished unless coordination takes place by one individual or department.  Therefore, it is essential that programs designed to improve the instructional delivery system be coordinated through the Assistant Superintendents for Instruction.

Workshop Responsibilities of the Assistant Superintendents for Instruction:

  1. Coordinate all workshops provided in the District;
  2. Make recommendations for workshops;
  3. Evaluate requests for workshops;
  4. Help design workshops, upon request;
  5. Provide facilities and/or resource personnel, when appropriate;
  6. Conduct District workshops, upon request;
  7. Maintain a monthly workshop calendar for District workshops and/or in-services;  and
  8. Maintain evaluation data and distribute to appropriate personnel, upon request.

Evaluation Form:
The evaluation form to be utilized shall be at the discretion of the sponsor.  However, for purposes of data collection, the following information shall be requested:

  1. Identification of participants, i.e.: parents, teachers, administrators, etc.;
  2. Number of participants;
  3. Race of participants;
  4. Sex of participants; and
  5. Compilation of percentage or number of responses falling within each given category on the evaluation form.

Procedures:

  1. An administrator or designee who is interested in a specific training program shall notify the Assistant Superintendents for Instruction by filling out a "Proposed In-Service Form."
  2. The "Proposed In-Service Form" shall be received by the Assistant Superintendents for Instruction at least three (3) weeks prior to the date of  the requested workshop.
  3. The Assistant Superintendents for Instruction  shall meet with the appropriate administrator and/or  supervisor to review the request and verify specific needs.
  4. The Assistant Superintendents for Instruction  shall return the request form with  verified date, written  recommendations, where appropriate, and resources to  be provided by the Assistant Superintendents for Instruction offices.
  5. Approval shall be based upon the signatures of the appropriate administrators.
  6. If changes occur after the initial plans are submitted, the revised plans shall be resubmitted.
