PROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL
RESIGNATION
The Board considers a contract with a certified employee to be a
mutually binding agreement, which is to be executed both in spirit and
in fact. Requests to be released from such contracts are not
encouraged.
The Board shall accept any certified employee's resignation for the
ensuing school year when it is presented in writing prior to July 1 of
the current year.
When a certificated employee makes a written request for a release
from his/her contract during the school year, the Assistant
Superintendent for Personnel and Evaluation shall meet with the
employee and discuss the situation before bringing a recommendation to
the Board. He/She shall review the following factors: impact of the
resignation on the educational program; availability of a qualified
replacement; uniqueness of the needs of the potential vacancy;
competency of the employee in his/her job; and relationship of the
notice (if any) given by the employee to the requested resignation
date.
The Board has the option to accept or reject the resignation of a
certificated employee that is submitted after July 1 of any given
school year. Certificated employees who leave the district under terms
that are not mutually agreeable shall be subject to appropriate
disciplinary action up to and including dismissal and a recommendation
to the Michigan Department of Education that the employee's
certificate be revoked. It shall be the policy of the district to not
provide letters of recommendation for that employee and to place an
informational letter in the personnel file of the employee.
Once a resignation is tendered and accepted by the Board, that
resignation shall be considered final unless its withdrawal is
requested and approved by the Board.
