PROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL COMPENSATION GUIDES AND CONTRACTS
It is the policy of the Board to attempt to pay all of its professional personnel at a level that will attract and hold employees of high ability and dedication to education.

Under policy, the Board negotiates with employee groups concerning the wages and other working conditions of the employees represented. The Board recognizes the following Association:

NORTHERN BERRIEN COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION/MEA/NEA and its local affiliate, the BENTON HARBOR EDUCATION ASSOCIATION/MEA/NEA

As the sole and exclusive bargaining representative for all professional certificated personnel including all classroom teachers, summer school teachers, adult education teachers, driver education teachers, nurses, therapists, psychologists, social workers, guidance counselors, department chairpersons, librarians, consultants, vocational education teachers, and permanent substitutes employed in the same position for 60 consecutive working days. Such representation shall exclude the Superintendent, all Assistant Superintendents, directors, principals, assistant principals, administrative assistants, coordinators, supervisors, facilitators, foremen, JROTC Officer, executive secretaries, paraprofessionals, office clerical, custodial, bus drivers, cooks and food service workers, maintenance personnel, per diem substitutes, and all other administrators and non-teaching employees of the Board.

The current labor agreement between the Board and the above unit is considered an appendix to this policy manual. The terms of the labor agreement shall have the force of Board policy and shall take precedence over other policies in any instances of conflict.

The Board shall establish salary schedules and benefits for all employees not covered by labor agreements between the Board and the above employee group.
