WALKERS AND
RIDERS
Under law, a third class district is
not required to provide student transportation. Since the Board wishes
to do everything within its power to serve the students of the district,
it shall provide transportation under the rules and regulations of the
State Department of Education and seek to maintain cost efficiency at
all times.
Students who live more than one and one-half miles
from the school they attend shall be eligible for bus transportation.
The Board may make exceptions to this policy when they are in the best
interests of the students and the district; however, it shall not single
out areas or individuals in granting transportation privileges in
deviation from established policy.
The Superintendent or designee shall determine those
areas that are less than one and one-half miles from the K-5 buildings
of attendance. The following guidelines will be followed:
- Students Eligibility and Distances see (EDDB-R)
- To determine the distance a student resides from
the school attended, measurement is made from the center of the
nearest entrance of the students' home, to the center of the nearest
approach to the school. Measurement shall be to the nearest tenth of a
mile (Example: 5.2 miles). However, one-half mile is no less than a
full 2,640 feet; one mile is no less than 5,280 feet; and one mile and
one-half is no less than a full 7,920 feet.
