EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES MANAGEMENT/
SAFETY MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION OF BUSES/
SCHOOL OWNED VEHICLES

The safety and welfare of riders shall be the first consideration in all matters pertaining to student transportation. It is the Board's intent that all district owned or leased vehicles conform to the safety criteria that has been established by the state and district regulations developed as a part of this policy.

All buses, student transportation vehicles, and district owned vehicles shall be maintained by the district's transportation department or designated provider. A planned inspection program shall be instituted and monitored by the Superintendent or designee. All school vehicles shall be inspected daily by the driver/substitute driver assigned to the vehicle.

A maintenance plan shall be developed that assures that all district vehicles will be scheduled on a routine basis for service by the district's mechanics to insure maximum safety and a minimum of road failures and general defects. The Superintendent or designee shall be responsible for the proper scheduling for repairs and maintenance of all district owned and operated buses. It is the Board's intent that all transportation vehicles shall be maintained at the appropriate inspection of readiness level, with the objective of achieving one-hundred percent (100%) compliance with state standards at all times.

Upon the completion of the annual state inspections of school buses, a copy of the results of the inspection shall be provided to the Board within 30 days.

A fleet readiness report shall be provided to the Board annually at the August meeting.
