WARNING SYSTEMS RULES AND REGULATIONS
Tornado Information:

  1. All "tornado tests", "tornado watches", and "tornado warnings" shall originate from the Berrien County Sheriff's office and shall be received via the plectron unit in the central administration building.

  2. A "fan-out" message system, details of which are on file in each district building, shall relay messages to every building in the district.

  1. The wording used by the sender will be as follows:

  1. "this is a Civil Defense tornado test"; or

  2. "this is a Civil Defense tornado watch" - turn on your radio; or

  3. "this is a Civil Defense tornado warning" -turn on your radio.

  1. Office personnel or anyone taking phone calls shall

  1. listen to the message;

  2. take down accurate notes;

  3. log the source, date, and time of the call; and

  4. inform the building administrator so that proper action may be taken.

  1. Definitions:

  1. A "test" will be for practice only;

  2. A "tornado watch" means that the principal and teachers should be alert and prepared for action if the tornado watch is followed by a tornado warning;

  3. A "tornado warning" indicates a tornado has actually has actually been sighted and every school should immediately take action according to the established building plan: and

  4. "All clear" signals shall be relayed via the fan-out system when they are received from the Sheriff's office.

A copy of the emergency preparedness plan for each building is on file in the office of that building and in the office of Emergency Preparedness at the Berrien County Sheriff's office.  It is the building administrator's responsibility to inform teachers and staff about the plan and to inform parents and students about the district's emergency procedures.
