SAFETY PROGRAM
Every possible precaution shall be
taken to protect the safety of all students, staff, visitors, and others
present on district property or at school-sponsored events. The
Superintendent or designee shall serve as the district safety officer
with responsibility for the safety program of the district.
The Board believes that
student playground safety is of the utmost importance and subscribes to
the Playground Assistance in Loss Control and Safety Program (P.A.L.S.),
as outlined by the district's insurance carrier. All building
administrators shall be responsible for playground safety and the
implementation of the P.A.L.S. safety program.
The practice of safety
shall be considered an integral part of the instructional program
through lessons in fire prevention, emergency procedures and drills,
driver education, and traffic and pedestrian safety.
General areas of
emphasis in the safety program shall include, but not be limited to:
in-service training, building and vehicle inspections, fire prevention,
accident record-keeping, driver and vehicle safety programs, emergency
procedures and drills, and traffic safety programs relevant to students,
employees, and the community. The appropriate requirements of the
Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Acts (MIOSHA) shall be observed.
