DUTIES OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

Performance responsibilities of the Superintendent shall include:

  1. Interpret and clarify the purpose and need of the District to Board members, staff, parents, students, and the public.
  2. Keep the Board informed about the status of the District and educational trends and practices.
  3. Assume ultimate responsibility for the assignment of students and administrative staff in the areas of student services, business management, plant management, transportation, and evaluation.
  4. Initiate and guide the development of policies for Board consideration and develop such administrative rules and regulations as may be necessary to implement Board policies
  5. Coordinate the total educational program and provide leadership in its development and improvement.
  6. Foster a culture of inclusion, diversity and excellence among students and staff that prepares all for a dynamic, pluralistic global environment.
  7. Represent the District in fostering communication with other districts, institutions, agencies, community organizations, and the general public
  8. Direct studies and planning related to the District organization, attendance area boundaries, and school plant requirements.
  9. Direct employee negotiations with professional and nonprofessional staff.
  10. Assume full responsibility for the selection, assignment, dismissal, and evaluation of all District personnel.
  11. Guide the process of fiscal planning and budgetary development and interpretation.
  12. Oversee the processing and submission of required reports.
  13. Monitor, review and comment on legislation and developing legislation while assessing its impact to the District. Advise and engage the Board, staff and community to support or advocate for bills/laws that will benefit the District.
  14. Exercise leadership in the development and execution of a school- community relations program.
  15. Provide guidance and management of the legal affairs of the District.
  16. Coordinate the work of administrative staff, provide counsel and motivation, and foster an esprit de corps.
  17. Initiate and oversee a continuous evaluation of the progress and needs of the District and keep the public informed.
