STUDENT
INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS
Many students desire a stronger voice
in the decisions which affect them and their efforts to participate in
such decision-making are welcomed by the Board.
Because students have the right to acquire an
education appropriate to their interests and potential, they shall be
permitted to assist in developing regulations for student conduct which
will help create an educational climate conducive to the accomplishment
of worthwhile educational goals. The Board also views student
participation in school affairs as an extension of the educational
process.
Students can be a resource for the improvement of the
district programs by participating in the development of policies and
rules affecting them and simultaneously gain educational experience.
To this end, the Board:
- Shall permit two duly chosen representatives of the
high school student body to sit with it during open meetings and take
part as non-voting participants. Procedures for the selection of these
student representatives shall be developed by the Superintendent or
designee and shall have the advance approval of the Board.
- Shall invite students to attend its open meetings
as an observer and member of the public.
