BOARD
SELF-EVALUATION
The Board desires to engage in continuous development and
improvement and will self-assess. Annual board self-evaluations allow a
board to monitor its performance and hold board members accountable to
their roles and responsibilities.
Periodic Board self assessments can be a
very helpful way for the Board to evaluate its performance and to
determine those areas which need attention. The benefits of Board
self-assessments include:
- Board accountability
- Open communication among board members
- Insight into decision making
- Improvement of board professionalism
- Clear understanding of roles and responsibilities
- Identification of strengths and weaknesses
- Effective and productive goal setting.
Board members shall individually fill out
the Board Self-Evaluation Process instrument and return it for
compilation. The summary identifies areas of relative strength and
weakness, areas where perceptions are closely aligned and areas where
board members see certain criteria differently.
Board members shall use the information
gleaned from self-evaluations in a positive, productive way by focusing
on self-improvement and greater effectiveness. After reviewing and
discussing the summary report, the Board may choose to develop goals and
actions plans to address areas where perceptions of Board performance
are either negative or have a wide discrepancy range.
